We visited today for the lunch menu, as it is walk in only we were put on a waiting list and sent to bar for a cheeky wine and cocktail. The wait was approx 45mins but we waited less than half an hour!We ordered soo much food and it was all outstanding!Starters we ordered miso soup which was a special, plate of pickles and edamame. All packed with amazing flavour! The mains we had were, the chicken skewers, raw salmon, beef skewers, sweetcorn fritters and 2 specials, pork belly skewers and pork with miso butter! All of this food was incredible like nothing we have had before! We had to round it off with a dessert and we chose the matcha cheesecake and amazake cherry and almond and both were devine! We weren't drinking but the drinks menu looked great! Loads of Japanese whisky to chose from and beers! The service was quick and friendly. The staff were very knowledgeable and chatty! I loved the decor it was simple but effective (loved all the serving plates) If I could give more than 5 I would! Will definitely be returning! Well worth the money and wait!

Stupendous good, delicious textures and excellent drinks. Kushi Ya is a standout eatery managing to live up to the sizeable local hype. Unlike some other reviews, I think for the quality of food, the value is there. The only minor niggle is that we were asked to free up the table 75/80 minutes after arriving. We asked for the bill, and then a couple of minutes later we were asked by another staff member to start wrapping things up. When we’re spending £110 on food - I’d like to have been provided a little more time - or just asked more nicely! We will be back for sure. I can recommend the prawn sando and the tomato’s. Probably the best tomato dish I’ve ever tasted. The brains behind Kushi Ya are flavour wizards, and the hype is very real.

Brilliant experience here. Fabulous food and great range of it too. The chicken skewers (Tsukune) were great as was the salmon sashimi. Edamame was as far away as you can go from those microwaved, plain things you get elsewhere. These were smoky from being grilled over charcoal and hit with soy and chilli. Loved the fun of the prawn sando and prawn toast. Make sure you save space for the matcha cheesecake. It's heavenly.

Went for lunch. Got there for 1pm, had to wait 35 minutes for a table, but we'd been informed that would happen. The wait was absolutely worth it. Great food, beautifully presented, and with stunnning flavour combinations. Everything from the seaweed and fennel salad through the beef and chicken skewers to the matcho and line cheesecake were absolutely top notch. The service was also good, with our waiter knowledgeable about the menu. The lunch offer of a snack, two skewers and a bowl of sticky rice for £15 is a bargain, and you can order additional dishes off the menu alongside. Oh, and the beer selection is great as well. Definitely going again, next time for dinner so we can enjoy more of the menu.

Wow wow wow. It's rare something lives up to the hype.. this place does and not breaking the bank either. Flavours. Service. We are still talking about individual dishes the following day. Sadly, rarely get to go out for nice dinners, so this being my graduation I was really really pleased with this venue. Compliments to the whole team

One of the best restaurants in the Midlands. Second visit. Menu evolves. All the plates were of excellent quality. The prawn toast remains my favourite item. The pork and kettuce is also very good. Check the specials board though as these items always prove worthwhile but seasonal. Good drinks also and decent service.

Oct 2023It gets very difficult to book a table at this restaurant, and on this occasion had to chance our luck by going to their walk in lunch on Saturday. There was a long queue when we arrived so was sent to their sister bar around the corner whilst we waited for a table to become free. Food was still amazing and the service impeccable!Oct 2022Revisited my favorite restaurant in Nottingham! Food was excellent as always. Have posted latest menu and pictures. The sashimi and prawn toast was amazing! Thank you to the staff who are attentive but not obtrusive. This place is an absolute gem.Jul 2021Everyone in our party had their favourite dish but the braised pork and tiger prawns were particularly enjoyed. As it was our first visit we tried as many dishes as we could and they are all very good and made fresh to order. The sushi salmon is also one of my favourites of the evening. Sadly we were so full we didn't have room for a pudding, but we promised that we would return to have another go at the menu.
