Grand Union Canal Leicester Navigation

As a boater the locks are poorly looked after the weed and rubbish are a problem in the river .

I have used this waterway for over 30 years and seen many important improvements not least of which is to see the smilesOn the faces of Disabled people enjoying the boat trip provided byThe Peter Le Marchant Trust.They have recently added to there fleet of river cruiser'swith Seranaid, which this year joins Symphony, Harmony, and lastBut not least Rhapsody.Thats what I call Music. !Photos to follow!

Beautiful river nice walks and wildlife rubish in the water though the closer you get to Leicester but from cossington mill all the way to the river Trent it's lovely mind you I would say that I live on the river soar

It's a Canal

The Grand Union Canal joins the River Soar at Aylestone, SE of Leicester. The Soar eventually joining the River Trent, the reason the the canal was constructed. On it's journey thru Leicester they often separate, but rejoin again. Both waterways provide countryside walks, fishing and boating opportunities. There are also links to The Great Central Way, Abbey Park and Watermead Park. Several bus routes also provide access along its route too. The 'Mile Straight' in the heart of Leicester plays host to the Leicester Rowing Clubs annual regatta and the also the Riverside Festival. The canal splits off again providing access into Loughborough.

Loved it
