Haven't stayed there, but have been for lunch there a few times recently. The food is very good, reasonably priced, and the staff are attentive and friendly. Will definitely go again.

Myself & partner visited this pub whilst touring the South Downs on our motorbike. We both had Roast lamb, and it did not disappoint. The lamb was tender, and there was ample portions, and the veg was cooked well. The portions were huge, I couldn’t squeeze in one of their homemade desserts. The staff were very accommodating(As we hadn’t booked), very professional and attentive. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and is cosy. All in all we were very happy with our trip here and would recommend this pub.

We visited for a roast dinner and it was more than we could anticipate. The service was slow but the manager was on top of it during this very busy period. We had the roast beef which was cooked perfectly and came with a huge yorkshire pudding and a great assortment of veg. All very tasty. Staff very friendly and helpful.Pudding was very good too.It was a little pricey but for the quality and amount it was spot on. I would go again and recommend going. Id like to also try the normal menu.

Visited with two others on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered the Vegan Nut Roast- to what I received was a vegetable bake filled with hundreds of pine nuts, two potatoes and some measly veg. My partner ordered a Southern Fried Chicken burger, however, when the food came out he was given a beef burger. This was rectified and the lady who served us immediately apologised and admitted it was her fault. However, myself and my mother had finished our food by the time his chicken burger had come out, understandably this does take a short while to cook- although the chicken was not southern fried, rather grilled and coated in a sauce. My mum ordered the Lamb roast, which was all fatty- she couldn't eat much of it at all and the vegetable portion the same size as the nut roast.Service seemed good to begin with, although it had dropped before we got our food. No one came to check on us and no one asked if the food was okay. We also overheard another table making similar complaints, that didn’t seem to be resolved either. The only good thing about the experience was the lady who took our drinks and food order- despite the little issue with the incorrect burger as everyone makes mistakes. I had questions and changes about my roast and she was helpful, willing and all round attentive.I feel like after such a lack of care and customer service, we should have been given something to compensate or make up for what was a poor experience. We will not be returning.

My wife and I popped into the Rising Sun for a drink and some lunch. It was very friendly and very cosy with a lovely log fire going. The food was very delicious with a great selection of ales and spirits. Will definitely be going back. A definite must to try if you are in the area. Definitely 5 star.

Poor. Six of us had been out walking, and arrived approx 12:15 midday. Three of us wanted coffee. It took the staff around 10 or 15 minutes to deliver the coffee to the table. The same thing happened last time we came in here after a walk, again around midday on a week day. They seem to be completely unable to provide coffee with a reasonable amount of time. In view of this, I'm not sure what service would be like if I decided to have a meal here. So, even if the food is good, they are ruling out potential clients by a lack of attention to detail with regard to occasional passing visitors. It's a shame, as this is my local pub.

We went for an early weekday lunchtime for something to eat. All started well with good service but seemed like the service stopped about half way through our meal. We had to go to the bar and ask for more drinks and the bill etc. It would be nice to see more vegetarian options. Food was ok, more 'pub grub' than 'restaurant'.
