Tour guides (3) were provided for our 'Palace' visit. All were very knowledgeable and presented an excellent history of the place.Unfortunately no photography is allowed on site.

A fascinating tour of this historic site. You must book a tour from English Heritage if you want to visit. The palace is a private residence and some parts are not open but there is plenty to see. William our excellent guide did his best to pack 500 years of history, architecture and intrigue into the 2 hour tour. You walk round the parts that are undergoing restoration. There is no café and no gift shop. Go for the morning tour and book a table for lunch at The Willow and Brook pub. Great fish n chips and a good Vegan choice.

This is now a privately owned property and the owner very kindly allow limited numbers of visitors to tour ( accompanied by a guide ) at a cost - which we didn't find too excessive. The palace is undergoing restoration - and the upper floor looks like it's just been painted in Farrow and Ball historic colours ( which I would love to copy for my Grade II listed building - they'll never know!!) The fireplaces were particularly impressive and our guide Melanie was brilliant, James 1st is a great character to hear and read about. If I had a criticism it would be that some members of our tour group couldn't stop talking! One in particular ( obviously an historical boffin ) who loved the sound of his own voice - should have been politely asked to keep his voice down. There is a rule - no photographs which is a shame but totally understandable. Well worth a visit.

Very limited opening hrs but an awesome even untouched look at history. Truly amazing rooms. Extensive grounds. You must take a guided tour this is privately owned. No photos except outside. Secret passages for the King's male paramour. This is where historical shows are filmed because it is so little changed. And still no indoor plumbing or electrical. Superb. Can't wait to go back this summer. Rare glimpse of the past even for England.

Apethorpe Palace is normally open to visitors in July and August. Booking a tour before turning up is a must. Apethorpe is stunning.

Great tour. Very interesting. Beautiful building. Only a portaloo in the car park. Don't go if you can't stand well for a couple of hours. Not allowed to take photos so can't post any

Really enjoyed the tour today, William was an excellent guide and really brought the history alive with humour and a good knowledge of the palace's centuries of history. Would definitely recommend a visit.

A great tour, made all the more special by the booked time slot and gates opening and closing. The guides were knowledgeable and there is a lot to take in, even though there are no interiors in the way of original furniture or paintings, but a great house on the upturn again in its 600 odd years
