Honister Slate Mine
What an amazing experience, went on the classic via ferrata £45 and it was well worth the money. Fantastic instructor, Heather, very experienced and knowledgeable about the slate mines and felt very confident climbing in her care. Lovely photos bought and were emailed to us for £20.Very nice cafe, cracking flat white, made with decent coffee, good selection of cakes but also soup, hot pies and hot sandwiches/toasties etc.Toilets in very good condition, car park free with activity ticket otherwise £5 for day and well worth it for access to the local walks.I'd definitely return with my grown up family as there is a list of activities I'd still do plus the slate mine tour underground, £17.50 each, no concessions. Also, if you're lucky, you might see fighter planes on training flight path!

Heights of Abraham
Great day out. Can spend hours there as lots to do. Cable cars give good views of the valley. There’s a free tour of the caves and various view points. There’s cafes and ice creme stands as well as a little gift shop.

Most Wednesdays and Sundays, Kelly Mine is open and visitors are very welcome to drop in; there is no access at other times and there is no underground access.

Morwellham Quay
Pre-booked tickets a few weeks before hand just in case it was very busy but when we arrived it was pretty quiet, just a dozen or so of us on a sunny Wednesday. The guided tour by Cathy was very informative and interactive, especially the Victorian school experience (I got 'caned' for daring to write with my left hand!). Rock breaking and chocolate making was also fun. The mine train was very good and the village had lots of interesting information. Definitely worth a visit but pre book your tickets just to be on the safe side.

Morwellham Quay
Had a brilliant day at Morwellham Quay with our two grandsons aged 7 and 5. The tour with Fay was excellent as was the train ride. We finished the day with some time in the soft play. Two very tired but happy little boys this evening! Highly recommended, everyone was so friendly and welcoming!

Bath Stone Company
Working with these guys as a consultant, I would like to comment that Matthew and his team run their mine in a very safe, professional, efficient and ethical manner. Thus, the heritage of mining in the Bath region continues to be preserved at Stoke Hill, as does the product, its beautiful Bath stone, continue to be mined - also the resulting architecture continues to delight our eyes - and fundamentally this industry continues to support the local economy.Bath stone is sourced, mined, processed and used locally - a lovely example of sustainability.

Great Orme Mines
A must Go attraction! Highly recommended. You can walk into an ancient mines. Feeling adventurous but not too difficult. No matter kids or teens, definitely, they are excited. One suggestion is to wear a pair proper shoes or hiking ones as the floor in the mines is slippery.

Honister Slate Mine
This is a great place to visit & spend the day in the area. As at November 2023 all day parking is £5. Parking is paid for in the Slate Mine shop. There's plenty to do & see, including the famous via ferrata, which I did quite a long time ago. The café is well presented & serves really nice, if not a little expensive, snacks & drinks. The staff were very pleasant too. This is a working mine & you can see what's being made through viewing windows. The mine is situated in an area of the Lake District that has many well known peaks that are easily accessible from where you park. With Derwent Water at one end & Buttermere at the other the drive in is spectacular at all times of the year. Honister Pass can be very dangerous in icy conditions & shouldn't be attempted at all in those conditions due to its steepness, exposure & it being wet most of the year.
