Big on the border Grosmont is a member of an illustrious trio of strongholds. Along with Skenfrith and White Castle, it’s one of the ‘Three Castles of Gwent’ built by the Normans to control a key section of troublesome border country. The original earth-and-timber stronghold, build on a gros mont (French for ‘big hill’), was later replaced in stone.

Moelfre LL70 9HQ
Possibly all that’s left of a vanished community Standing in a lonely spot overlooking Lligwy Bay, little is known about the history of this ruined 12th-century chapel. The stone structure that stands today was probably erected on the site of an older, timber-built Celtic church in the 12th century, when Viking raids on Anglesey came to an end and life on the island became more stable and prosperous.

Castle Hill Roman Fort
It's a nice place. There's not really much to expect from it except a short walk and a good view. May be misleading calling this a historic destination as really there's no remains of any fort. Other than too much litter, it's nice though.

Brean Down Fort
Amazing place to visit!.. the one thing that isn't obvious though is the long walk to get to it so be prepared!! And, sadly like all our war based historical buildings it is crumbling away!.. this needs to be saved really..

Castell Deganwy Castle
On the hottest day of the year last year (in July) I decided to give this place a go. Beautiful landscapes and excellent clear views across the estuary. Also great views across to the Great Orme and to Llandudno. It is a bit of a steep hike but reasonably a good walk if taken casually.

Castell Deganwy Castle
Firstly, this is not a 2* hotel, it's a ruined castle! I don't like to think of people turning up here trailing suitcases behind them. I wish I could figure out how to change it.Nothing that hasn't been said before. Not much left but great 360°views of the peninsula. Fascinating history; predates Conwy castle which can be seen across the estuary.

Wenlock Priory
So much of the priory is still intact and so much of it. It must have been spectacular in it's time. It has a very surreal feeling. Just loved it.We saw so many original tiles and carvings, it was so beautiful and calm.

Castell Deganwy Castle
Deganwy Castle is a total wreck of a castle, in your head you can workout how the castle was first built, there are small wrecks of walls here there & everywhere, it should say this is where Deganwy castle once stud. It is worth the walk up to the top of the hill the views are brilliant on a good day, well worth the walk

Grosmont Castle
We've visited all Three Castles. Grosmont being the 3rd & our favourite. We parked in the most beautiful friendly village and walked up a very small distance towards the castle. Dog friendly with plenty of space for picnics.
